This Bridge of Love Across the Border started in 2018 when the last Central American caravan arrived at the Tijuana border. After seeing so many families and their children sleeping out in the cold waiting to be interviewed for political asylum, many folks from this side of the border started sending help.

 

Two specific shelters caught my attention, Caritas shelter and an LGBTQ shelter. One shelter was held up at gunpoint and someone tried to light the other shelter on fire by placing a mattress on the door and setting it on fire while there were families inside the shelter. This was a direct attack on LGBTQ Trans migrants.

 

Sarina Ifelayo and I decided we needed to help them keep their doors open. We started gathering donations and sending them across the border and also created a fundraiser to collect funds and donations. Since then we have grown with the help of several amazing volunteers and donors.

 

Bridge of Love Across the Border is 100% grass roots volunteers who donate their time collecting donations, sorting and taking donations across the border where we deliver them to families, children, LGBTQ community from all over the world seeking refuge and asylum.

 

Over the past year and a half we have served thousands of asylum seekers with food, clothes, toiletries, sleeping bags, blankets, tents, shoes, first aid, diapers, toys, books, sundries, stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, pots, pans, kitchen utensils, sleeping mats, tarps and many more items we donate with love, respect and dignity to you and your families.
